Find and lose yourself through the meditative practice of knitting, and make objects of beauty, love and joy. Our patterns are written with expert skill from cast-on through finishing, with an eye for what is beautiful and enduring in knitwear design. Jennifer Carpenter owned a yarn shop in downtown Philadelphia for more than a decade, and taught handknitting classes and workshops. Over the years she created and refined a range of knitwear designs with a focus on circular knitting and Elizabeth Zimmerman's "un-ventions", elegant and ingenious techniques with needles and yarn. A few patterns have been published through Interweave Press, and one even made it onto the big screen as the iconic hat worn by Saoirse Ronan in The Lovely Bones. Technical questions will be answered personally as soon as possible, and every effort is made to write clear and concise directions for knitters of all skill levels.

SOPHIE'S SOCKS
The structural design of knitted socks and stockings has changed very little from when they were first knit centuries ago. Then, as now, the logical way to make a knitted article that covers part of the leg and foot is to connect two tubes at an angle-one tube with an open end; the other with a closed end. Part of the art and the pleasure of knitting socks centers around the area where the two tubes connect, known as the heel. From “Folk Socks” by Nancy Bush

SOPHIE SLOUCH HAT
Sophie is the slouch hat (that is secretly a beret with subtle shaping) that you want to have for every season. Knit it with colorful sock yarn stranded with lace mohair in the fall and winter, and skip the mohair and just use sock yarn (doubled up for the ribbing) for a light weight spring toque for you and your friends - they will ask you!
